The weather

It's been cold lately. And windy. And rainy.

From the old bom.gov.au website:
IDV19300

Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology
Victoria
Gippsland Lakes Forecast

Warnings: Gale warning is current

Forecast for Wednesday: South to southeasterly winds 25 to 35 knots, with

Wait, did they say nanometres?

back!

I'm back.

Decided I should do something with this blog, rather than let it wither and die. I'm not sure who my audience is anymore, but I've decided I should use this as a place where I can collect my thoughts for my own use anyway.

What I've been thinking about lately:

Moving house: 18 June! What do I need to do? Power, water, phone line, broadband, whitegoods, furniture, crockery, enough to make your head spin! I'm moving out because I think it'll be good for me. I don't think it's healthy to get into the habit of messing up your room only for Mother to come and clean it up. It's only just around the corner anyway.

Mobile phones: Man, it was good to be on a data plan, back when I was in Dubbo. 100 MB for $30 a month though, so it wasn't really economical back then. Now, there are GPRS/3G plans like Virgin's $10/300 MB (only on plans though) and Three's X-Series ($20 for 500 MB). Even Telstra and Optus are putting up almost-reasonable data plans, i.e. something slightly cheaper than 2c/kB. Telstra Pre Paid (what I have at the moment) is selling data packs, something I haven't yet taken up because it requires me to agree to higher flagfall and waving goodbye to the 1c/minute weekends.

A common thread is trying to work out how to decide what the best product is for me. Whirlpool has a great resource in its Broadband Choice page, which helps to work out what broadband package is best for you. There are others like PhoneChoice which are okay but never seem to compare data plans. For things like power, I'm on my own. You've got the Government's Essential Services Commission to list the players, but the quotes you'll have to get yourself. Annoying!
